Welcome to the West Coast Athletic Club family.

We hope you will enjoy running with us and we look forward to getting to know you! We are a great club, a lively social bunch of people from all walks (and runs) of life. We train hard and we play harder!

Please note we are no longer based at the Big Bay Lifesavers Club, our new temporary home is the Table View Tennis Club, behind the Virgin Active gym opposite Bayside Mall. “Temporary”, because we are in the process of fundraising to build our own club house on the Table View sports complex behind the tennis club.

As the club grows, it is imperative that EACH MEMBER please follows the 3 simple steps on our website to join the club – so that we can accurately record all member details on our database and also provide you with your ASA license number.

CLUB MEETINGS & RUNS

Social media is the way to go – so please join our FACEBOOK pages for all the latest updates and for information on different runs, events and registration times (not to mention all our awesome photo’s too!)   There are 2 separate pages for our club – please see below:

Please note both Facebook pages are moderated, posts to the main page will need to be approved. Read the guidelines, it’s basic stuff like no advertising, keep it relevant, don’t use as a personal diary and no inappropriate content. Irrelevant posts will be deleted and repeat offenders for advertising and offensive content will be removed. Keep it relevant!

Our club pack run is on Tuesday evenings. We meet at the club house at 17:45 in summer for a warm up and a little earlier at 17:15 in winter. The summer run starts at 18:00 and in winter (from May) this changes to 17:30.

The pack runs either 5km, 8km or 10km and you are welcome to slot in wherever you feel comfortable.  You are also invited to stay afterwards to meet fellow runners, enjoy a cold drink at the bar and a chat!

On Thursday evenings our trail group run a very social 5/10kms around the vlei at McPhersons Nursery on Gill Road.  The run starts at 18:00 in summer (17h30 in winter) and has become a popular evening with beautiful views and it is something different for all to enjoy – walkers, juniors and even our dogs are all welcome too.  This is then followed by delicious burgers in the restaurant (at a discounted rate for our club runners) and then in winter the fire is always very popular as well.

Our club monthly Time Trials take place on the first and third Tuesday of each month. These are timed runs and are updated on our website so you can track your progress each month. Options are either a 5km or 8km, alternatively if you choose not to run the time trials, you are welcome to still do the leisurely pack run with others.

 

During the summer months, early morning Sundays at 06h30 our members meet at the Virgin Active Table View Gym to share lifts and head off for the popular Centurions morning in the mountains around Kirstenbosch/Newlands Forest.  Distances vary from a beautiful 8km walk where kids are welcome to join us – to a more challenging 21km run, which is a spectacular scenic route which then ends at UCT car park. Cross Country is held during the winter months while Centurions is closed and it is a great way to keep fit and build strength while participating in a cheap and fun inter-club competition. It is open to the whole family and juniors are especially encouraged to participate.  It is a fun day out and with different races on, there is really something for everyone!  The locations vary for the season so it is a great mix of terrains and locations – come rain or shine, we are there !!!  Speak to Bruce Wood for more details.

 

Our monthly Club Night takes place on the first Tuesday evening of the month at 19:30. We are often very fortunate to have a variety of guest speakers (dieticians, medical professionals, personal trainers, physios, shoe specialists etc) to join us for the evening as well. 

Our social officer and club captain always surprise us with a delicious meal to purchase on these busy club nights so supper is sorted!  The awards presentation is often entertaining although we do like to acknowledge our achievers on all levels and at the same time, “fine” those members for any fun wrong doings at races/events during the month….

Please feel free to chat to me (or anyone!) about the various Whatsapp groups in the club as there are a few of these.  Some offer early morning starts at around 05h10 during the week with runs between 8-10km from the local Virgin Active gyms and with some hill training too…. 

There is a slower “sloths and snails” group that has grown in leaps and bounds over the past year and is super popular with the ladies!   Getting you started slowly, off that couch and onto the pavement or even some gentle trails – a fun crowd to start with!

CLUB KIT

Please adhere to our club rules regarding our kit and be advised that should you wish to participate in any of the ASA registered races, you will need to run in our official club kit.

Our kit consists of a red, white and blue vest which is branded with West Coast and royal blue shorts or leggings. 

Please note – no black is permitted.  Should you prefer to wear something under the club vest, please try keep this “neutral” with black, white, royal blue sleeves.

Club vests are available from sizes XS to 3XL for both ladies and gents – and we also have club vests for our juniors from aged 6/7years.  Age tags available for those that require these at R5 each. For those cold winters and for cross country – our club tracksuits are a winner!
