July 2023 Awards: Winter did not slow us down!

It may be cold outside, but that did not slow down West Coast’s speedsters during the month of July; neither did it prevent us from going the distance at the Cape Town Festival of Running.

Read on below for the awards and special mentions for July 2023.

Runner of the month

Michelle Minaar was awarded female runner of the month for achieving a gold standard at the Cape Town Festival of Running 21.1km. Michelle placed first in the female vet category, winning this Coca-Cola league championship race.

Luca Boyana was awarded male runner of the month for achieving a gold standard at the Curro Brackenfell 21.1km race where he placed 3rd in the vet category. He set another club record in the vet category, beating the previous record by more than 2 minutes.

Club standards

Twelve (12) athletes (5 female, 7 male) were awarded Club standards for their performance during July. Standards achieved included two gold, four silver and six bronze standards.

Standards were awarded for races taking place before 28 July 2023, races taking place on 29 and 30 July are included in the August monthly awards.

Despite the continued wet and chilly weather, members participated in six road races and one cross-country event in July. In total, we covered 1661.5 kilometres of road.
